Bioturbation and its quantitative evaluation in carbonate rocks

Thin section studies in 120 samples from the Silurian of Gotland suggest that vertically oriented ostracode valves can be used to trace intrasedimentary animal activity and sediment mixing. Their relation compared to other valve positions (convex-up; concave-up) also provides a measure for the intensity of bioturbation.
