Assuming that all Chitinozoa originated in chains, various forms of the "copula" are discussed, including those features of isolated forms that indicate such linkage. Lack or imperfection of a copula may be due to incomplete sclerotisation. Additional evidence supports the hypothesis that ehe chains grew by partitioning of single links.
