Abstrakt
The purpose of this thesis was to find out which peatlands in the list of the Ministry of the Environment (Regulation No. 87 of the Minister of the Environment on 27 December 2016 “List of peatlands damaged by mining and abandoned peatlands and peatlands suitable for extraction”) in the Tartu County are eligible for extraction and peat production. The analysis of extractable peatlands was based on the Tartu County peat database made by the author of this thesis.
Such peat deposits were identified that are suitable for extraction and peat production in terms of geological, mining and environmental conditions and peat quality. The data collected during the work show that many peatlands included in the list of peatlands suitable for mining are not fully extractable and there are also areas that are completely unusable. According to the regulation of the Minister of the Environment in the Tartu County, 15 peatlands are listed, 11 of which are deposits. It was found out that seven peatlands are suitable for extraction. Unusable for extraction are eight of them (high ash content, being spring-fed, thin peat deposit).
