Abstrakt
Nordkalk AB is extracting limestone in the Klinthagen quarry in Gotland, Sweden. The existing reserves will be exhausted within one decade, pending additional permitting. As a result, the company is looking possibilities to expand to the block in the southern part of the quarry. The area has in close range residental houses - 150 to 200 metres.
The aim of the work is to develop optimal parameters for blasting, providing possible alternatives to the existing method that has been in use for many years in diferent parts of the quarry. There are 8 different alternatives calculated, from where one is proposed to be used in the selected area. Since the calculations are theoretical, it is necessary to check the alternatives and calibrate during fieldworks.
Additional aspects of the work include safety factors that can enhance safety during blasting - the introduction of plastic bags and protective mats. The company should also continue to monitor residential buildings..
