Abstrakt
The anders and the skull of a red deer, Cervus elaphus elaphus LINNAEUS, extraordinarily !arge and regularly branched for recent Swedish conditions, were found in a drainage ditch from the mires of Mossberga, parish of Högsrum, Öland. The sediment in the braincase was used for a micro- and macrofossil analysis and for a radiocarbon dating which indicated an age of the sediment of 3 r 90 ± 70 years. Though many literary records exist of the extinct deer of Öland, only two additional specimens are extant. Among the macrofossils from the sediment in the braincase is Najas marina LINNAEUS, unknown from Öland in recent times.
