Abstrakt

The well-known Carboniferous trilobite genera Phillipsia, Griffithides, Cummingella, Bollandia and Brachymetopus all have type species from Ireland that were described originally in the 1830s and 1840s by Phillips and Portlock. These and others described by M'Coy and Woodward have for the most part lacked modern description and illustration, which is the purpose of this paper. The stratigraphical range and occurrence of each are assessed as far as possible. The likely generic attribution and stratigraphical range are given for those species for which the original material has not been found. One of these is the much-quoted Paladin mucronatus, a species of considerable stratigraphical importance, and a neotype is selected in order to stabilise the name.
