Eastern Siberia comprises a vast area where Silurian rocks are widely distributed. Exposures, which are situated mainly on the rivers, are very good for observation; graptolitic and carbonate facies are fossiliferous; but access to all these localities (especially in the central and northern parts) is difficult, expensive, and possible only during the short summer months. Nevertheless, palaeontological and stratigraphical studies made in this area for many years show that Eastern Siberia has great promise for the achievement of detailed stratigraphy and correlation. A summary is given of the lower Llandovery biostratigraphy.
