The „splitting" in the taxonomy has explicite significance in the geschiebe research mainly for distinguishing special kinds of geschiebes and for the determination of the region of origin of the geschiebes and by that for the palaeobiogeography of Baltoscandia. This is explained by subspecies of the Middle Ordovician Pentagona joehviensis.
