Abstrakt
Abstract and figures of the distribution of fossil hypercalcified sponges through geological time. The diagrams are published in two preprints that then formed the basis of two peer-review papers, so the diagrams are published overall in four places. These diagrams are summaries of the histories of the hypercalcified sponges, drawn from all the available literature and combined onto single diagrams, allowing comparisons between different grades of hypercalcified sponges through time. We were very pleased with these diagrams, as useful overviews of hypercalcified sponges through time. The problem is that the diagrams contain errors and one also requires an update, which, as is the nature of errors and updates, only came to light relatively recently. The diagrams were created by myself, from compilations of literature data, and so the error is mine, and did not involve either of the two co-authors of the papers: Juwan Jeon and Qijian Li. So if you want to blame anybody, then it is my fault. My only satisfaction is that I identified these errors myself, before any readers did. What's the solution? Instead of submitting corrections to the 2 preprint platforms and 2 peer-review journal editors that could result in multiple publication, a simpler solution is to provide the corrected version via Figshare, thereby easily available, in one location, to readers. In the following pages are reproduced the original versions that were published on preprints, and the corrected versions that should be used by any future studies. 11 th October 2026; CC-BY-4.0 licence Under this licence, you may re-use any of the content of this file, providing you cite this source; please read the full details of the licence on the Creative Commons website: https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/.
