Abstract

In this paper some data are given about the poorly studied dictyonema shale oil generated by the burning of oil shale buried in dumps of open-cast pits. Shale oil ground- mixed samples were taken around the holes in which the gases were secreted. The extracts of the samples were rich in sulphur. The amount of pure sulphur appears to be higher than that of oil in one of the studied samples. The oil studied differs from dictyonema oil shale semicoking oil by larger amounts of organic sulphur and oxygen. It is partly water-soluble. The authors present some assumptions concerning the formation of pure sulphur from the sulphur of the dictyonema oil shale (organic, pyrite, elementary, and sulphite) and the pyrite layer primarily situated under the shale.
