Abstract

The task of the work was to develop an alternative drill-and-blast technology for oil shale roomand-pillar mining in the Ojamaa oil shale mine. Current drill-and-blast plan requires drilling of nine 280 mm first cut drillholes into D/C layer. A new drill-and-blast plan for oil shale room-and-pillar mining with use of chainsaw machine Fantini was developed. Developed technology foresees 1 horizontal (roof) and 2 vertical slots (on the sides of the room) are cut in the oil shale layers.
The main goals of the introduction of new technology are:

  • To reduce the specific and overall consumption of explosives during mining, thus increasing the share of coarse oil shale in product;
  • To reduce dilution of run-of-mine from non-industrial layers (roof layers);
  • To reduce oli shale losses in pillars.

Comparison of the two technological options shows that:

  • The specific and overall consumption of explosives is reduced
    • Current technology 0,96 kg/m3
    • New technology 0,92 - 0,47 kg/m3
  • Oil shale losses in the pillars:
    • Current technology 16%
    • New technology 12%
  • The share of coarse oil shale in product will probably increase.

Further theoretical and empirical research is needed in the future to specify the parameters of the developed technological solution.
