Abstract

Studies of late Cambrian and early Ordovician lingulate brachiopods from the East European Plate and its adjacent areas, including Baltoscandia (Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Estonia and northwestern Russia), South Urals, and Kazakhstan (Popov and others, 1989; Popov and Holmer,1994; Puura and Holmer, 1993) indicate that it is possible to recognise several rather distinct assemblages; these have potential both in interregional correlations and palaeogeographic reconstructions, but with few exceptions there is a lack of knowledge of lingulate brachiopod faunas from most other regions.'The distribution of articulate brachiopods from the same interval of time has not yet been studied in detail, but some preliminary data is presented below
