Abstract

A section through the autochthonous Ordovician limestone to the east of Brunfloviken, Jämtland, central Sweden, yielded conodonts from the upper Ceratopyge and Latorp limestones. The Tremadocian Ceratopyge Limestone is represented by a 5 cm thick bed with abundant phosphorite and glauconite. It contains the following conodont species: Proconodontus notchpeakensis, Cordylodus prion, C. rotundatus, C. pararotundatus, C. angulatus, C. proavus, Paroistodus numarcuatus and Paltodus varanguensis. The fauna characterizes the upper Tremadoc Paltodus deltifer Zone. This is the first demonstration of the existence of Tremadocian beds in the autochthon of Jämtland.
