Abstract

Based on Haddding's (1913) conodont collection supplemented by much larger recent collections, about 20 conodont taxa have been identified from the Fågelsång GSSP and nearby outcrops, which include a stratigraphic interval from the Eoplacognathus lindstroemi Subzone of the Pygodus serra Zone to the Baltoniodus variabilis Subzone of the Amorphognathus tvaerensis Zone. The base of the global Upper Ordovician Series, and that of the Sandbian Stage, is located in the middle part of the Pygodus anserinus Zone, apparently very close to the base of the Amorphognathus inaequalis Subzone. Each of the nine conodont species introduced by Hadding (1913) is discussed and interpreted in terms of modern multielement taxonomy.
