Abstract

An abundantly fossiliferous Lower Cambrian locality has been discovered at äspelund, parish of Ryssby, Småland, in the western part of the Skäggenäs Peninsula. The sequence, exposed in a water well, consists of a few thick and a number of thinner sandstone beds alternating with grey and reddish shale. Current ripples and trails occur, and there is a conglomerate with well rounded Precambrian quarzite pebbles in one of the sandstone beds. The fauna consists of the brachiopod Micromitra undosa (Moberg) and the problematic disk-like-fossil Mobergella holsti (Moberg) which occurs together with hyolithelloid tubes. New figures of these fossils are given. A lectotype is designated for Mobergella holsti.
