Abstract
In our previous contribution to this series (Geology Today, v.11, p.113, 1995) we documented several of the basic concepts and uses of trace fossils (ichnofossils) in palaeontological and sedimentological
studies. In this short account we further discuss two aspects of ichnology not previously detailed by us, namely the ethology of trace-fossil animals and the nature of the organism(s) responsible for trace-fossil production.
