Abstract

Many extant capulids are commensals on pectinids and it seems to exist a commensalism-parasitism gradient intheir trophic relations. Little is known about this association in fossil species. Some cases were reported in Pliocene and Pleistocene species from New-Zealand and Japan. For the first time, scars of bioerosion, possibly made by a capulid species, are described on shells of Gigantopecten gallicus (Mayer-Eymar), from the Serravallian outcrops of Salles (Aquitaine, SW France). These scars should be assigned to Capulus sinuosus (Brocchi) and, possibly also, to Capulus neglectus (Michelotti).
