Abstract

Two forms of branched, thickly walled, meniscate trace fossils occur in the Permian of East Greenland and Miocene of southern Italy. A new ichnogenus, Rutichnus, is erected for these specimens, and its possible synonyms and mode of formation are discussed. The two ichnospecies, R. irregularis (D'Alessandro) and R. rutis n.ichnosp., differ in the manner of branching and external rugosity
