Abstract

The jaw apparatus of a new monospecific polychaete genus has been reconstructed and described from the Silurian of Gotland. The genus is tentatively placed within the family Polychaetaspidae. Dubichaetaspis bergmani gen. et sp. n. is identified from the Upper Visby, the Högklint, and the Halla Beds and less safely identified from the Slite and the Hamra Beds. The highest abundance is recorded from the Upper Visby and the Högklint Beds. The species is rare in other strata. The occurrence implies a preference for shallow warm waters, in close vicinity of reefs.
