Abstract
The external and internal morphology of topotypic material belonging to the type species of Atrypoidea and Atrypella demonstrates that the former is a senior synonym. Atrypoidea was a widespread, late Silurian (Ludlovian-Pridolan) brachiopod, occupying shallow, sheltered, marine, carbonate environments, particularly in the present-day northern hemisphere. Diagnoses are provided of Atrypoidea australls (Dun), A. prunum (Dalman) and a new species, A. saaremaaensis Copper & Rubel.
