Abstract

A laboratory exercise using a variety of screws and blocks of wood provides the means for studying fossil borings. Students will utilize observational and critical-thinking skills as they address problems associated with classification, limitations of the fossil record, and importance of bioerosion. The activity is suitable for upper high-school and college students.
