Abstract

Modular branching and microlamellar tube structure of the Upper Cambrian Torellella sulcata and T. toolsensis resemble closely that of Sphenothallus. The main difference is in the presence of two lateral furrows in Torellella. The ultrastructure and morphology of Early Cambrian Torellella needs further study before the genus can beaffiliated with the sphenothallids and possibly the cnidarians. The phylogenetical relationships between this genus and Hyolithellus remains problematical.
