Abstract
Much attention has been focussed on processes of limestone solution and their climatic variations. Much less is known about the interrelationships between different limestone landforms and the limestones themselves. As a result of progress in oil geology many hundreds of different limestones have ben recognised and there has been a recent increase in the literature about limestones. The writer has been interested in this aspect for many years but only now are the relationships between different limestones and karst land forms being realised. This paper discusses the lithological and structural characteristics of limestones in relation to land form development on both the micro and macro scales.
