Abstract

Teredinid pallets from the London Clay of Kent and Surrey are described, and four new species belonging to extant genera (Dicyathifer huggettae, Teredothyra davisi, Nototeredo worcesterensis, Nausitoria wrigleyi) are established. The construction of the apertural part of the teredinid tube is shown to be of taxonomic significance for the first time. Nausitoria and Dicyathifer are restricted to brackish-water mangrove areas at the present day, and their occurrence in the London Clay provides additional evidence of the existence of a fringing mangrove on the shores of the London Clay sea.
